1) Past medical and family history
  • Why does an Occupational Therapist (OT) need to write notes?
  • Components of the past medical history
In pairs, you will create a dialogue based on the medical history of a patient.

2) Pain assesment
  • Techniques and treatments to manage pain
  • Difference between chronic and acute pain
  • Types of pain: gnawing pain, sharp pain, burning pain, throbbing pain, shooting pain, etc.

3) Communicating with challenging patients
Occupational therapists, as well as other health professionals, may have difficulty in establishing a communicative relationship with their patients. The objective of this session is to identify why a patient can be uncommunicative and the strategies a health professional can use to avoid this.

4) Communicating with the elderly
It is important for health professionals to show sensibility when interviewing elderly patients. In this practice session we will explore different techniques an Occupational Therapist must use to communicate effectively with the elderly.
